My name is David Carrington.
I am from the metropolitan Richmond, VA
area, but for the last 7 years, I've lived
in a quaint seaside town in Rhode Island,
which is the smallest state in the U.S.
My Story
In a nutshell, I have been self-employed
since I was 14. I have owned numerous
businesses. The last traditional business
that I owned I started with $800, grew it
to about $2 million a year in sales, and
then I sold it.
I walked away because it consumed me 24-7. The cycle of working harder to grow bigger to work harder to grow bigger never ends. At least not for me. While I LOVED the business itself, I hated what it did to me physically and emotionally as it grew larger. It got to where it felt like a leech that attached itself to me and tried to suck all the life out of me. Stress will destroy your mind, your body and your spirit if you don't control it.
Being a "Type A", I couldn't just coast along, I had to always being growing. So that meant let the stress slowly kill me OR I had to get out. So I got out, but it took me a several years to feel "normal" again.
After I sold the business, I started working from home exclusively online.
I envisioned the Internet as an ATM machine, but in my house. Over the years, I tried 100's of things to make money online, some worked well as in VERY WELL, but most were a failures. The great thing is, you only need ONE good one and you can live very well off of it.
You have to remember, that the Internet was in it's infancy when I started trying to make money online. OK, maybe it was a toddler by then, but there wasn't much difference.
There was no definitive manual on how to make money online (not that there is today either). People just threw lots of crap against the wall and waited to see what stuck.
In some ways it was easier then because there was way less competition than there is today, but you have to also realize that virtually none of the great tools that online marketers use now existed then, like videos. I personally never saw a video course related to marketing until 2005.
Plus, people were afraid to purchase online early on. They thought that everyone selling something online would probably rip them off.
Slowly things have evolved to where people are nearly as comfortable buying online as they are from a bricks and mortar store and that's good for us online marketers.
Why I LOVE Internet Marketing
In one word, it's the LIFESTYLE.
I can work from anywhere and interact with the whole world.
While the failure rate may be high, the entrance fee is low. That allows you to try many different things without a huge financial investment.
Today I have websites that sell physical products, both my own products and for others.
I have websites that sell instantly downloadable products such as; ebooks, music and information.
I have websites where I am just an affiliate and promote other companies' products for a commission.
I have websites where I only make money from the advertising.
And I probably even have some websites that don't fit into any of those categories.
My point is...I have many, many websites and I have probably tried just about every type of marketing strategy there is. From classified ads to banner ads, videos to article marketing , free directories to Pay Per Click.
And it all works in certain niches, at least to some degree.
So Why did I Create This Site?
I wanted a free venue for others who are interested in Internet Marketing where I could teach what I've learned, and unabashedly express my ideas and opinions. And hopefully learn from others on the forum.
I wanted a place where like-minded people can have discussions, ask questions, get answers, and exchange all things marketing related.
In Conclusion...
I'm here to tell you the good, the bad, and the ugly about marketing.
I know what's currently working in Internet Marketing, and I know how to do it. And if I don't know, I'll tell you that, or find someone who does.
Thank you for visiting my site and I hope you'll return often!
